The Importance of Stopping

This world is at breakneck pace. Society is churning like a whirlpool, its influence tugging us always towards is tumultuous center, always away from the calm waters at its edge. And for the most part one must go with it, to face the world and life and take risks and GO FOR IT. But at times, and this really is the key, we must step back, put a stopper on the relentless pursuits we are caught up in, and simply be there, in that moment to stillness.

We get used to inertia. We become unaware of just how headlong our journey often is.

Only when we stop. Only when we step back from the keyboard, or the telephone, or the paper, or whatever else has us caught up in its whirls, do we feel true stillness.

Society wants us to go. Success wants us to go. EVERYTHING wants us to go, and to go swiftly. But sometimes we must take in the path we are running before we set a foot forward. And above all, we must carry forward with a mind that is settled, a spirit that is centered, a level of consciousness that is grounded in solid principles.

So today, stop for a moment and think. Feel the moment for what it is: the only time you have, the only thing that exists. The past and future are but vapor. What you do now determines everything.

And then, keep going . . .
